»Notes: Battery

I cut off the nice spanish accoustic intro because a) I can't play all the parts and b) I wanted to keep it fast and aggressive all the way through.

I was particularly pleased with how the vocals came out on this one. It helps to actually practice things before recording them but additionally I was able to pull off a few recording tricks that I've picked up. Namely, doubling up the vocal parts for extra power, and adding compression to the main take for better clarity.

Despite the gang vocals on 'BATTERY!' not coming out terrifically well, I did record them approximately in the way I think they're supposed to be recorded. That is, recording them a few times, moving further away from the mic each take. If it wasn't just me singing then they might have come out better but instead it sounded like I just cheated and added a retarded chorus effect.

I'm a pretty awful lead player at the best of times and this song continues the trend of solo sections being too fast and mostly being about cramming as many tricks and fragments of scales possible into the solo and ending with heavy whammy bar.

For once, the bass didn't take an age to set up. It seemed to sound better when I had the compressor on the guitar pedal switched on. I managed to get a really punchy and powerful sound with the bass which really adds to the song.

I didn't do the longer chorus on the last chorus possibly because I forgot and possibly because there was no way of doing it on the drum machine without the song spilling over into another memory slot.

These are mostly here for my convenience.
