»Notes: SP2

I re-recorded this song to test out my new soundcard--an M-Audio Audiophile 192--and see that everything was working and see how things were different. I recently moved my old PC into my bedroom and set it up for recording becuase it was a pain recording in the computer room which required me to haul amps across the landing. I'm pretty pleased with the results. I got the main instrument tracks recorded really quickly and easily and the new sound card finally gives me a robust interface to work with.

This song was first uploaded here on 4th September 2006. You can find the old version here. It's a pretty straightforward song, it's about Service Pack 2 for Windows XP and how it's a bag of wank. I wrote the lyrics originally as a kind of joke when I was probably trying to make a point about how easy/lazy it is to write punk songs. Despite it starting as a joke, it's become one of my favourite songs to play, so maybe the joke's on me.

This new version is slightly faster than the old version. The solo is largely the same, it's one of the few solos I actually play consistently as opposed to just improvising. It's played more staccato this time, that's just the direction my guitar playing has gone in though. I just realised that, amazingly, I actually sing the vocals higher than in the first version. Amazing because the trend for my vocals has been to be pitched lower, maybe those singing lessons are paying off.

These are mostly here for my convenience.
