»Notes: Warfare

This is the second recording I've made of this song. In the intervening period from the first recording I've practiced it somewhat and recently added a load of tempo changes which is my new favourite trick. The main part of the song is a little faster than in the original though I slowed down the solo section and the introduction from the original.

This is the first proper song in which I've bothered to do any tweaking with the equaliser. I don't want to give it such a grandiose title as 'mastering' but I think it certainly helps bring the sounds of the individual instruments out more.

I used my FX86B on the bass again on this song. The bass was recorded at the same time as I did Terminator 1, so it's using the new bass amp as well. The bass sound was a fucking nightmare to set up and took me an entire session to get right, which was very annoying as I had wanted to get this song recorded quickly and without much trouble with it being an old song that I'd actually practiced before recording.

I changed the last refrain of the chorus from 'warfare not fair' because it sounded really lame.

The following lyrics were going to be included in the first version of Warfare as a 'talky section' along the lines of the outro to Slayer's Mandatory suicide. However, as it turned out they sounded rubbish and they were never included in the final song.

Wounded you've drawn blood,
You're finally one of us,
Here have a medal it's what you deserve,
Why are you crying, have you lost your nerve?
You're a meat wall nothing more or less,
A dreadful secret I must confess,
One life to live and one way to die,
On your back alone beneath the sky.

For now, the original Warfare is still up on here and you can download it here. The original was uploaded onto the Cube on 17/11/06 which I think was shortly after I had first seen Slayer at the M.E.N. (hence the thumbnail picture), interestingly, I am about to see them again at the very same venue, this time at the end of October.

These are mostly here for my convenience.
